Default S&s carb

Does anybody have an S&s super E carb on a 1200? if so do you have any problems of any kind with it? I know thi is a very vague question but I am having so many problems I am just sort of fishing. Any input would be helpful.

What year bike and what mods are you running currently.
The S&S is a very adjustable carb and many get them all setup wrong.
You might want to , if you can , ID the carb , pull the bowl , ID the jets , clean the carb , see if it's better.
The S&S website has some good videos , so check there for some good info.
They used to be THE carb for performance , but the stock carbs are so easy to work with , most don't bother anymore.
The tuning section of the forum might be a blessing also.

Since the OP didn't come back as far as I can see and since I'm having some S&S issues too ---------- I have a 94 883 I made into a 1200 with the replacement heads and pistons (I didn't just jug it out). The OEM carb went totally south for me and I switched to the S&S. It has had several quirks but the big one is that it takes 5-10 miles/minutes to fully warm (come to anything resembling an idle) up and runs like a sputtering mule for those miles any time you give it gas. If I choke it longer/more open it gets even worse. If I skip the choke on the cold start and basically idle it by hand/throttle it is a lot less.

Any guesses?

I was under the impression that a fixed venturi carb like the S&S can't be tuned as much as the CV that comes stock. Am I incorrect?

The stock variable venturi carb is more "forgiving" and "self adjusting" than the S&S.
The Keihin will only deliver fuel as the engine can efficiently use it.
The S&S will deliver fuel as "you" decide it needs it , making it possible to be more "wrong" about the fuel delivery.
You can be a little off with the Keihin , and be less "wrong" with the final performance.
The S&S offers more tuning options , and ways to be off when you're all done.
Kinda like the difference between 4 barrel carbs with vacuum secondaries vs mechanical secondaries , for the older guys out there.
