Default '99 XL 883 H-D (Keihin) CV 40 Carb Upgrade Review.

Finally put my Custom Chrome Upgrade Kit in my stock carb Part Number: 040561 plus a Yost Idle Mixture Thumbscrew Part No: 82367 and a standard custom Chrome carb rebuild kit. Also treated it to a new chrome carb top. All cleaned and the kit went in no problems. I even fitted some new socket cap head float bowl screws. Once I go it started (empty float bowl and new in-line filter) bike settled down and felt real good. Now road tested it up to 80 mph and much improved. Pulls like a proverbial stream train (pulls the front forks up a treat with not much of a twist of the throttle), better starting and no "spitting back" through the carb. The idle mixture is now an easy job to adjust as it is now a manual exposed **** under the carb. Sounds better and at 30/35 mph the throttle is only just off the idle stop, so worth the £70 odd, damn right and cheaper than replacing it with an S%S Super E which i have done before on other Hogs. Now running a 160 main jet and mixture at 2.5 turns and needle on No.3 clip and no adjusting washers as yet.
