Default Rubbing - Rear Pulley/Sprocket Outer Edge - SOLVED

Done 600 miles on my 2015 48 and today I have noticed this....

Rubbing on the outer pulley/sprocket edge, not on the inner edge at all either.

WTF ?

Assuming it is rubbing on the upper or lower belt guard, but how?

I've bottomed out the suspension once or twice and been over a couple of pot holes, but I assumed the guards stay relative to the swing arm position not the suspension.

Is something moving under load?

Will the dealer replace this pulley under warranty or should I just remove the belt guard and go about my business?

Thanks in advance

I had the same thing happened on a 2014 Custom. Dealer replaced it under warranty. Upper belt guard rubbing, just pull it out some.

Thanks G

I just checked again and the upper belt guard is nowhere near the pulley - obviously don't know what happens under riding conditions but I can't see anything moving that much?

Maybe my fat **** is too heavy for it - as I said I have bottomed it out several times

If the UK summer holds out, the 1000 mile service will be due in a couple of weeks so will probably mention it to the dealer then.

In the meantime, do you think the shock or fender could be hitting the belt guard when it bottoms out, causing it to rub on the pulley?

Check the belt guard rear mount attach fitting. The shock may also be pushing agaisnt the guard when under load.

Hmmm.....maybe the wheel is out of true. The marks do not look consistent, so I assume that since some parts of the pulley are scarred "deeper" then it might be the pulley or the wheel that's out of true. Combined with compression of your shocks bottoming out it occasionally rubs. I would have the dealer check the wheel balancing to be very sure. It's not like a bicycle where you just lift it up and spin the rear wheel. They'll have to do it at the dealer or shop.

I weight about 250lbs. I had to set my rear shocks to the highest settings. Don't bottom out anymore.

Just ordered myself some C spanners to crank up the rear shocks - I weigh about 240lbs.

Having said that I can't see how anything would make the guard touch the pulley when it does bottom out - the shocks are too narrow and don't come down onto the guard at all?

Can't say anything about the rubbing. Don't have that on my rear pulley. I would imagine the wheel not aligned would cause your rubbing.

Going to check my alignment tomorrow with a tape measure/bit of string.

I wonder if the wheel is buckled where I clouted it on the pot holes?

Haven't got a lift so will have to wheel the bike along and check clearance as I go.
