Default iron 883 - oil questions and tips

hey guys , I'm sorry if this has been asked, I'm new to harley and bikes in general...

i just bought a 2013 iron 883 with 2700km on the odometer...

yesterday i attempted to remove derby cover , had a small bit of fluid leak out (2 tea spoons ) guessing...lol

today , if i turn the ignition on the oil light pops up ? and then goes away when i start up ...is this normal ? do i need oil asap ? any tips and tricks for a new rider...i am sitting with the manual now...but to be honest id like an opinion from some one who rides often

on top of this , i don't think the owner did the 1st service as he barely rode at all...comments on this ?

Check the oil level dip stick and see where your oil level is. The little oil you lost from the Derby cover is not part of the crankcase oil. They are seperate. In the future if the bike is straight up and not leaning on the stand you won't loose oil when you take off the Derby cover.

In regards to the oil change by previous owner, don't take any chances. Change the oil as soon as you can. Both holes.

The oil light on the Sportster is technically an oil-pressure light. It has nothing to do with oil volume. It simply reads pressure from the oil sending unit. Therefore, it's natural for it to be illuminated when the engine is not running.

A small amount of oil will come from the clutch area when the derby cover is removed if the bike isn't held upright on a jack. On the side stand, some oil will come out.

Check your oil level with the dip stick and be careful not to overfill it.

I just bought a 2014 used bike last week showing 1,300 miles and was wondering if the PO and changed the oil at 1,000 as recommended. Probably not so I will also pick up a change real soon myself.
Just reading you say to change at both holes so I'll read and see what that's about too. My guess is there's the oil pan on the side and some stays in the engine to that needs to be drained ?

I was just at the Harley shop Friday and should have picked up a change then and didn't even think about it.

Both holes is the motor oil and the transmission/primary oil. Many folks refer to them as both holes. On the bigger 103s its three holes, motor, primary and transmission. Its just some hold Harley speak.
