1999 Sportster 1200S.
Drove it this morning, no problems whatsoever.
Pulled it out to get ready to ship it off, and the starter would not turn over.
The headlight did not come on; the taillights did not come on; the neutral light did not light; the low oil press lite did not come on; the hi beam indicator did not come on.

However, the turn signals and indicator lites, and the brake lights, and the horn all work.

Battery is charged (I even tried a 12V car battery -- no change in behavior).

When I press the RUN and START button, nothing happens.

I checked the 4 15A fuses -- they are all good.

I pulled of the ignition switch, but nothing to see there.

It acts like some single central problem, just like a fuse, but where to look?

Anyone experience the same thing?
Anyone have an easy diagnosis?

To respond to myself -- it turns out that the keyed ignition switch was bad (the third position of the key). So, since the ACC (2nd) position) was still good, I bridged the red-grey and red-black lines so now it all works as usual -- except I only have a 2-position switch.

 

Good fix .. I have a shovelhead that has a finicky ignition switch .
