What pipes do I have, and are they causing off idle bog?
Picked up this '05 883c last week, and been going through it. 17k miles, and it runs pretty good.
I was told these were screaming eagle pipes? They have no baffles, and are loud! Too loud actually. I need to know what they are, and if there are any options for baffles.
Also, been having an occasional stumble or bog, right off of idle like when starting to pull into traffic. It hasn't actually died from the stumble, but it's still scary when it happens and I need to get moving. It does it more often when engine is not fully warmed up, so I am inclined to think it's a lean bog. Maybe richen the needle a notch? Is there a way to adjust the accelerator pump?

I don't know what pipes they are but most definatley if there is no baffle that is causing your bog problem. no back pressure so the bike is sucking in way too much air. you are going to need to add baffles or at least a set of power cones at the head. if the bike is too loud for you then you need to find baffles for that pipe. it may come down to you actually changing out the mufflers if you cant find a baffle for that pipe.

It's most likely IMHO that the PO who installed those pipes didn't tune the bike correctly. However straight separate pipes are not a good starting point for a road bike. If you really like them then be prepared to spend a little time and/or money tuning it, otherwise sell them and look for a more suitable system!

You should be able to tune the stumble out of it.
However, they will always be a bit flat on power in the low-mid range.
If you add some Thunder Torque Inserts to them, it will lower the volume some, AND you will get a surprising jump in low-mid range power...far more than if you spent more money on baffles.
Check em out HERE.
I agree, they do look a bit like Long Shots, but V&H does not make them for Sportys.
