Default High Idle on startup

Hello all,

So I just installed an HID bulb on my 2015 Sportster 883. I have the Vance and Hines Shot Shorts, Arlen ness inverted intake, and the fuelpak fp3. I fired up the bike this morning and it started idling at around 3800RPM. The check engine light did come on and it threw this code, P0506 idle speed control - rpm too low. I removed the intake and noticed that the intake flange is completely closed. My throttle cable is fine and does not stick. Any idea what could cause this random high idle? I have 4467 miles on the bike. I had the mods on for over 4 months and it just started doing this. Thanks for you help.

I don't know about newer EFI bikes too much. But it could be an intake gasket leak. You could try spraying some carb cleaner around the intake gasket with the bike running. If you get a change in idle then you know you have a leak.

It sounds to me like you may have a sensor or IAC problem. The bike's a 2015, I'd take it to the dealer, it's under warranty.

Fast (Cold) idle on EFI has to do with the Idle Air Controller (IAC) as cHarley mentions. I've cleaned one on a gf's Honda and replaced one on my Ford Ranger.

Thanks you all for the reply. I decided to fire up the bike again today and it revved up to 3800 for about 10 seconds then dropped down to normal idle, which is about 1000. I took the bike out and it ran fine, but then it started idling at around 4300. I took some wd-40 and sprayed around the intake and there was no change in idle. I guessing its a faulty IAC valve. I made an appointment with harley, but the next available appointment is the end of the month....

If i did have a blown intake gasket, wouldn't the bike rev high all the time?

For what it's worth, I have same bike with just slipons. Fast idle firing it up at 65 degrees is usually 1600rpm

Update!

I brought my bike into the dealership and the mechanic that's working on my bike is saying that the ECU might be defective. How does a ECU even become defective, and how would that cause an irregular idle?

Alright guys I just got my bike bike today. I went over to a local Harley shop about 5 mins away from the dealership and spoke to one of the mechanics. I told them what was going on with my bike and he said this is the 3rd time he's seen this happen on the 883's. He said that it's only happened with these models and its more than likely a factory defect. Harley however won't recall it because it's not happening often enough. He's been working on Harley's for over 20 years and he has NEVER seen an aftermarket fuel management harm an ECM. Go figure! I'll be throwing back the fuelpak on my bike as soon as Vance and Hines ships it back to me.
Happy riding folks!
