Those are what I have done and I can recommend.

OP currently rides a Fireblade.

The 48 will scrape ALOT when you go around corners.

You can increase the rear shock length and buy different pipes to gain some clearance...yet you will lose the style of a 48 IMO.

Maybe the custom is a better start (bigger fuel tank, 19 front rim as a plus) and modify from there. Also could recommend you are a great candidate for buying used.
Do an internet search as I recall there was a Sportster racing series a decade ago and that may give you lots of modification ideas to put some super sport into Sportster.

Sportsters are great do-everything bike!

Good luck with your decision and project.

The current sportster when I bought it had an immense amount of money spent on it outside ( loads of chrome bits including stuff like swing arm ) but it must of had a lot of money spent on the engine it, its a hell of a lot faster than the old Sportster I had by miles.

The thing is some people hate ' crotch ' Rockets and some people hate Harley's, I like both , the X 11 is a retuned naked Black bird, which likes to rip out your arm sockets on acceleration.

I have had people come off a sport bike in the past muttering about slowing down and keep their licence, only to really regret it.
Thanks guys, I already made the purchase few weeks ago. I got a 2012 with 8000miles, I think the previous owner may of been OCD as its never seen the rain and was in showroom condition haha. It has stage 1 power upgrade, Vance and Hines exhaust (loud as fu*k! ) and an uprated air filter. Theres still a few things I want to do to add my stamp on it, but the guy did a great job with the bike, I love it! Great to have my first Harley! Ive posted pics in the '48' thread but here another couple anyways.

Nice one, I really like those 48's when you going to change the tank?, you can spend more time riding and less time filling up

Thanks! Haha nah Im not gonna change the tank bro, I think it would take away from the old look of the bike? TBH though 80 odd miles is not too bad really, going around town or a couple hour ride on the country roads shouldnt be too much of a pain, though clearly going on cross country/international runs would be a pain in the ***, literally!

glad to see you got your forty eight. The tank is one of my favorite parts. Plenty of power and customizable looks. Arguably the best looking sportster out there.

Yeah agree with you there brother. Your bike in the sig looks awesome, you got any pics? I also wanna get rid of the reflectors, might sound stupid but how did you go about getting rid of them? Do they leave any marks?

Try warming them with a hairdryer. Sometimes helps the glued stuff come off a little cleaner and maybe quicker.
