Installing rear shocks on a nightster
I got a used Street glide touring air shocks for my nightster and I am having trouble getting it installed. I searched on the forum but so far not helped me.
I removed the right stock shock. The replacement street glide ones are 12.25" eye to eye. I cant get the nuts to align (its longer by an inch). I have tried all my force to lift the fender and its still longer by an inch. Is there a trick I am missing?
Lot of people have recommended using a car jack to lift the bike up. When I try doing that, the whole bike lifts up and it doesn't seem to increase the distance between the two nuts.
Any help/suggestions is highly appreciated.
thank you

I dont have a bike Jack . I am using a hydrolic car jack.
When you say in front of the swing arm, did you mean the frame it self? I am trying to find the contact point for the jack and all I see is the frame in the underbelly.

Is your jack in front of your swing arm, or under it. Your jack should be in front of the pivot of your swing arm. That way you can get the distance that you need for longer on shorter shocks. And have both shocks off at the same time.

Yes the frame it self. You really should have a motorcycle jack for that. Bothe sides of the bike should come up at the same time. Do you have a flat piece of plywood, or even a 2X6 may work with your car jack. Just so you can get both sides of the bike to come up even.

This is what you should have. Those 2 black frame rail things come off.

Once you get both sides of the bike to come up evenly. Take the other shock off. Then your swing arm will extend far enough for your longer shocks. Watch the video I posted. Don't let the rear wheel come off the ground.
