This might be a stupid question but I'm new to Sportsters.
I have a 1999 883 Custom. Will a 2004 custom gas tank work on it?

 

Probably not. Usually parts for 86-03 are interchangeable.

 

2004 was the first year of the rubber-mount frames, which are a new design. Simplest to stay with the years Iarecobra recommends. Having said that I have persuaded a 2009 Glide tank to fit my 1990 dresser, however that did require surgery! It's down to how much effort you are prepared to put in.
