Default Help - Drain plug confusion

I don't have a service manual (yet). I want to change the Primary oil only, not transmission fluid, on my 2007 XL1200C. I thought I knew what I was doing, until I see two drain plugs and don't know which is which.

Can someone please ID these two plugs? Which is for what?

Default Help - Drain plug confusion

The one in the right is the drain plug. The one in the left is the primary chain adjusting nut.

Sportsters share the primary and transmission fluid. There is no way to change only one as they are not separate sumps like a big twin.

The one directly under the derby cover is the drain. If you are not going to adjust the chain don't mess with the other one.

Well done, now get yourself that factory service manual! H-D produces probably the best there are and there is a stack of useful stuff in it - for those sleepless nights......
