Default Couple of minor issues with new bike...

... So a heads up as to whether they are perfectly normal would be good

Firstly, the fuel cap certainly isn't a nice solid connection, once it gets to the ratchet point, it still wobbles a fair bit? I might change it anyway as I don't like the plasticky look but I'd like to know if this was the case for everybody?

Secondly, Finding neutral, especially at the end of a ride whilst the engine is running is nigh on impossible - Is this just a new bike thing that will improve over time? Maybe after the first transmission oil change?

Thanks folks

I have a 2015, but the fuel cap is tight.

With neutral I get the same issue after riding for an hour or two. Sometimes it is easier for me to get to neutral from 2nd than from first when it gets like that.

My gas cap on a 2006 is a little wobbly. Not much though. Occasionally I have a hard time finding neutral. Generally I can let out on the clutch a litle to pull on the transmission while holding the brake, pull the clutch back in, and it slips right into neutral.

just a heds up , the battery cover will probably fall off , get some nylon zip ties , they dont need to be huge , they will fit thru the holes ...save you money and getting cover all scratched up.

Default See if Neutral is still an issue after your 1000 mile service

I found that after my first service neutral was much easier to find. They do the primary oil change then and it really fixed that problem for me. Before I could spend 5 minutes trying to hit neutral, afterwards it was first try 90% of the time.

My Iron has about 5,200 kms on it. Gas cap has fit well since I got the bike, and I have no trouble finding neutral. I have no idea what to suggest about the former, but I think finding neutral will become a little easier with time.

Is your bike brand spanking new? If so talk to the dealer when taking it in for it's first service. I don't have any of those problems with my SuperLow. Engaging neutral in my long experience with Harleys was more a big twin thing and my technique is to engage neutral while still rolling, rather than waiting until stationary. Of course it isn't possible to do that every time, however being hot shouldn't affect things, hence getting the dealer to take a look, may simply need a mild tweak to adjust it out.

For the gas cap...it should not rattle.
Looseness...is debatable best to compare with other new bikes.

Transmission...could just be a new bike thing.
If not easier by 1000 miles look to clutch and primary chain adjustments.
For now...look at your clutch cable routing and adjustment.

It's been said before, spend $100 on a factory service manual it will pay for itself.

Enjoy your new bike!

both can be fixed at your 1,000 mile service- I have had only one factory recall on mine and it was for the gas cap- don't know if that's your issue or not, but the dealer will know how to fix it. You could try a custom cap to see if that fixes it.
