Hey guys, you got me all wrong! I did the ones onto the cylinder head to 12nm which fits with what you're saying... No problem there I was talking about the muffler exhaust clamp...

LOL....you mean the Torca muffler clamp assembly (the one that secures the slip-ons to the head pipes). The 2011 Sportster manual states "Tighten two Torca clamps to 38-43 ft lbs (51.6-58.4 Nm)"

I noticed when I got back from road test that my rear nuts were loose already. I've got a torque wrench but it's 1/2" drive so it doesn't go that low in settings ( must get a 3/8" one) so I tightened them all up again and gotta admit I did crank them up a bit and sure I've over tightened them but hopefully will be ok.

The torca clamp torque 38-43 ft lbs (51.6-58.4 Nm) that I provided is for #20 in the picture. My pic is the same with different numbering. And yes #23 is the retaining ring that is needed.

Thanks for your help guys...

I'm using aftermarket clamps that came with the Cobras so went with 30nm... 60 seems mental (but the OEM ones are a fair bit chunkier).

Took everything apart again, new gaskets, all went well, torqued up properly, still leaking loads from the cylinder so god knows - hate being defeated by something so simple but I'm at a loss!!!

Did you install a retaining ring? Did you tighten the flange evenly going back and forth between the two flange nuts until you reached your torque specs?

IF the studs did not twist off they will be ok. When new gaskets are installed leave your heat shields off for a while and recheck often, new gaskets squash down a lot but eventually maintain a tight seal.

Ok, so my mistake was embarrassing... Still learning the ropes so go easy!

There was no exhaust leak, it was WD40 smoking off the pipe.

********.
