Default Winter Battery Care

I'm thinking about storing my Iron over the winter in my garage (the other option is to store it at the dealership), and would like to know whether keeping on the battery tender will be enough, or whether I should remove the battery and put it on a charger.

The garage is unheated. That means it's going to be cold in there. We can get temps as low as -35C (-31F) for periods up to a week at a time in January and February, though the average low temp is more typically about -7C (20C).

If the battery tender will do the job - without damage to the battery - then I'd leave the battery on the bike, with the tender attached, in the garage. If the charger option is the better one, I'd remove the battery from the bike, store it in my (heated) basement, and charge it from time to time.

If I choose to store the bike at the dealership, they will remove the battery and charge it periodically.

Sorry if this is a lame question, but this is the first time I've considered self-storing a bike through the winter. Previously, I handed my bikes over to a dealer for winter storage.

Thanks!

Alan

Holy crap! Are you a polar bear?

If me were thee, i'd remove te battery and put it at the back of the cupboard under the sink or suchlike and give it a little charge every 4 weeks or so.

Not a polar bear, just a Canadian. (Not that here seems to be much difference sometimes.)

Your advice makes good sense. Thanks!

A battery Tender will keep it charged and you'll have no problems with it in the scooter. If you want to take it out STILL keep it on the Tender. It will definitely help in maintaining a long life for the battery

Even in the cold, but it would be best to store the battery inside if possible

Why would that be better? In what ways? For what reasons?

Battery's are filled with liquids which will be better off if they don't freeze.

That's reason enough. In the winter here, everything freezes. The ground, the sky, me...

The least I can do is keep my battery warm.

I agree with battery removal and storing in a heated space on the tender. Always worked well for me.
