Recently did it myself on my 2014 48.
Purchased a tank from TC Bros.
I had to buy 1' length of fuel line tubing for the fuel vent since it's on the other (right) side. Wound up using windshield fluid tubing (it's only venting anyhow) and it cost my a whopping 73 cents.

Larger tank
I replaced the 3.3 gallon on my 2013 Iron with OEM Sportster 4.5 gallon tank. Just had to change the seat, which I was going to to do anyway. Easy job and takes about an hour. I also have a programable gauge, so had to enter the new capacity tank and it reads just fine. Love the 180 mile range on the bike. This size tank also should be just fine on the 48. I would recommend using OEM parts.
