Cutting Exhaust - Thoughts

Why not. I love the sound of mine after I removed the baffles. I inserted Thunder Torque inserts from DK Customs and now it not only sounds deep and mean it has better low end torque then stock no question. CTFS

Well I cut mine & gutted like the video on DK's website & used the W158tti the video showed. I think the w158 is to small seeing how I have a gap big enough to fit my fingers around them. Which in turn killed my low end torque drastically. I just purchased some w258s from ripto to see if this helps. They are a bit louder then I was wanting also. Some like it but it's more then I want.

I have a buddy who literally just took the muffler part off, i guess the slipon part and is only running the pipes. He says he hasnt noticed any power loss or anything. I on the other hand have a tuner, and short shots. he has no tuner and is running it like that with an aftermarkey airfilter. he rides the **** out of the bike and hard and seems to have no problems so far

Yeah I threw in the W158's into my 3" slip ons and noticed nothing. I definitely noticed low end was improved when I threw in the W258's.

Dunno about those Thunder Torque inserts. After all, they're almost $19 a set !
Got the W258's in my 3 1/4" slip-ons with baffles out. Yes, the result is loud, but its not the resonant, tuba-like, empty, obnoxiousness you get by simply removing baffles. They do seem to preserve power as well.

I'd look for some cheap takeoffs to experiment with, and keep the stock mufflers. Those might get hard to come by, and not so cheap, if the state/country you live in ever passes noise laws. Or in case you don't like the results; you don't uncut mufflers...
If you want loud, gutting mufflers will do it. If your bike is carbed, you'll need to do some carb work to make it run right - I just did that the easy way, put a size up low speed jet in it. Didn't bring back mid range power, though, got mufflers with back pressure to do that.
