As not to limit your options...FWIW a 2002-07 Touring Rear wheel would the same as the sporty wheel. It's just flipped, no offset difference
'07 yes. Thanks for the heads up~
I didn't know. I considered doing a flip with the rear deluxe wheel the guy brought by but rough measurments didn't seem right. I didn't want to end up with a wheel I'd have to re-lace a sportster hub to.
What do you know of the softail wheels. Are they same size/offset as touring?

Your 07 sporty uses a 1" rear axle (21mm wide bearings). The 2013 Deluxe wheel is designed to use a 15mm wide bearing (25mm ID). You can work around this by various methods. I'll elaborate if needed.

Same for the front Btw...2013 Deluxe = 25mm x 15mm bearings.

So for the Rear, to keep as easy as you can, You want a 16x3 wheel that came originally with 1"x 21mm wide bearings:

2005-2007 XL
2002-2007* Touring
* (you may be able to add 2008. I haven't checked the laced spoke wheels, but for Touring 2008 only the "Mags" were simply a earlier casting with a bearing shim for the thinner 15mm bearing)

Next Best, but will have to enlarge the center section to accommodate the larger 1"/25mm center spacer sleeve/axle:

2000-2004 XL
2000-2001 Touring
2000-2005 Dyna
2000-2002 Softail (They changed the offset slightly, approx .080-.100 in 2003) But as you know that can easily changed on a laced spoke wheel
2003-(2006/7 ??) Softail (...with changing the offset)

Again 25mm rears can be made to work, but as you can probably see, there a lot of better wheels to use out there

Thanks that makes my search easier.
I knew about the front. For forks I'm building I got 2 lower legs from 2009 Softail=25mm axle and the softail wheel I bought is from a 2013 also =25mm axle. I'll stick with the 1" axle for the rear. CL brings this up on first try http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mpo/5430409875.html rear wheel should be easy to find. Thanks for the info!

Yes, just think how many 2002-2007/8 Touring Bikes have had their Laced Spokes removed. I would guess a whole lot more than Sportsters

Is that style of rim your after? Traditional drop center hoop...not a "Profile" (smoothie)

Yes drop center is what the 16" front deluxe wheel is- I do like profile better though but I'm going to match front and rear.

Forgot to mention, when I put that Fat Bob front end on the Nightster, I had to use a Progressive 2" drop kit to get the bike level.

Tell me more about what Mustang is doing for you. I tried to get them to make me a white seat and they said they couldn't because that had no white material. I wonder if I sent them material and my Mustang seat, they would redo it? Are they charging a fortune or pretty reasonable?

Small fortune-but she likes the idea of the red thread and diamond stitch. If you go to there site and select custom seats you can get an idea. I've always found mustang to be the most comfortable. She sat on my bike and liked the way it felt so I let her pick it out.

I'm going to try the 22.25" forks with stock guts. When I got the new forks put together for my bike the street bob forks were about 2" taller side by side with the progressive kit. I'll put them together with the DBI springs and see how they compare to the stock sporty forks.

This bike build covers valentines day and her B-day which is in February as well! Still be on the hook for a card. Women and there damn sentiments might even go out to dinner.

You should be able to drill the stem and retain use of the fork steering lock. Did you have to machine the upper tree or did everything line up?

No machining-everything does line up. And one thing I should mention before I forget-This job will take Sportster dust caps on upper and lower bearing. Bearings as far as I can tell are same on sportsters, softails and dynas.
