Default Stock Sportster Tank Fitment

I have a buddy with a 2001 883 Custom. He bought it with a aftermarket 4 gallon tank which he doesn't like. He has the chance to buy a stock Sportster tank from a 1998 1200 Spotrster. Before he buys it he is wondering.......Will it fit with no problems? Thanks.

As long as all the stock mounting points for the tank are still in place on his 2001, the 1998 tank should bolt right up.

Yep! Looks great on the bike. Paint is in excellent condition and he only paid $100 for it.

Well, it's not mine. It belongs to my friend, but yeah, he still has it.

He may want to sell it. It's a 4 gallon tank with two gas caps. He just didn't like the gold flames, and wanted the traditional Sportster tank look. Here's the bike before he changed it:
