I'm so freakin' old school that I have a hard time believing any oil will hold up to 5,000 miles of hot summer driving. The tank oil reaches 220°F on a hot day or in traffic. I know the new oils are a lot better than the prehistoric stuff but I still like to shave a few miles off the suggested changes
I figure they might want things to wear out early for job security.
I change oil at 3k just like my vintage car.

The last oil analysis I had done was on a sample with 4600 miles on it. Blackstone Labs' ($35.00 test) recommendation was that I could extend the next change interval to 6500 miles and test again to see if it could go even longer.
And I don't use expensive, boutique brand V-Twin oil, just a name brand automotive synthetic at < $5.00/qt.
Scientific facts beat internet rumor, supposition, speculation and old wives tales every time.

Times and oil have changed and I live and ride in the hot south.

I will change mine with 2500 miles on the oil in May just before a 5000 mile jaunt to Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. I also put new tires and brakes on when they still had another 3-4000 worth of tread left. This so I can make two long summer treks without worrying about changing tires or pads away from home and only another oil change between.

This, ^^^^, is true !
It is also a basic tenet of statistical analysis that one cannot arrive at an accurate conclusion about something like this, from a population sampling of "1". IIRC, Blackstone's past analyses have also not gone entirely unquestioned. Again IIRC, in at least one instance Blackstone analysis reported on a "package" substance, found in a product, which the Manufacturers subsequently revealed their products do not ever contain.
I'm not trying to pick one or condemn Blackstone labs. There can indeed be a multitude of reasons why a particular sample could be contaminated or otherwise show puzzling results. I'm merely suggesting that it is difficult (impossible) to draw an accurate conclusion from a small population sampling. According to statistical tenets, it would be inadvisable to push change intervals to a limit derived from results of a single sample analysis. In this, Blackstone is definitely guilty of wrong practice. In statistical terms, this issue relates to something called the "confidence interval", which requires a great deal of sampling and experiment to develop and which cannot be produced from singular or small sample set.
"By now I've cured everyone's insomnia, but you did mention science".
As an aside, I am very skeptical about a < $5.00 qt of oil's actually containing 70% or more PAO or Diester bases as a Group IV or V synthetic should do. Philanthropy is not a common trait in the oil business after all . Castrol ?

Charleys may be one test but blackstone doesnt base their recommendation based solely on his one test. They base it on comparing his one test to the many thousands of other tests they have run.
And you can be skeptical about a less than 5 buck quart of oil all you want. I run cheap oil in all my stuff and in many decades have yet to have an oil related issue. I do change at the manufactures recommended interval whether that be mileage or time.

Now that I look at it again, the recommendation was to extend to 6000 miles.
Note: that was their recommendation, I still change at 5000 miles, but it's nice to know the oil is still in good shape at 5000.
Just picked up 3 more - Walmart 5/qt jugs @ 23.99 ea.
