I was checking out some of the threads from the search link I found and posted yesterday and I found something useful...

Thanks for the heads up.
I made the change as soon as I read about it!
It was kind of a no brainer.
I was getting tired of bumping into it every time I climbed off my ride in the garage.

Man that is a good idea and may have to check it out. Monday I ended up pulling out the belt guard I had taken off when I first got the bike and figured up a way to make a vertical plate mount. I then just ran to autozone and picked up some of the plate bolts with the LED's, spliced into the original wiring for the OE plate mount and its good to go. I will snap a picture this afternoon when I get home.

I just took a stroll through your pics on your profile. That 3.3 tank looks pretty good man. Looks wise not a huge difference. I was really worried about it killiing the look of the bike. But it doesnt. Bike looks great man.

Thank you, yeh it does change the look a little bit, but I do a lot of longer rides and I needed more range than the 2 gal offered. I''m not sure why the 72 doesn't get more love than it does, but I do like the uniqueness of having a bike that not everyone has. Other than someday getting my Shinko 777 installed and maybe suspension upgrades, there's not much more i plan to do to it.
I also love seeing what everyone else has done to their 72's. There are some really nice ones on here.

When I decided to make the move to a 72, I was constantly watching seven HD dealership websites.
When a used 72 would appear, they were usually sold within just a couple of days.
The only exception to this was the BIG BLUE PEARL bikes.
Those were taking much longer to move.
Not here... There are a couple 72s in the used lot not and the manager told me he has only averaged selling 3 new 72s a year. He said that's why they are being discontinued.

Initially I liked the 72 more than the 48. But then I noticed I started disliking all the chrome on the 72 so I finalized on the 48.

Here in New Mexico all the dealers are out of the 72's. Soon as they get one in I will be trading my 2016 sportster 48 for one.

Certain USED 72's seemed to move pretty quickly here locally with the exception of the Big Blue Pearl models as stated previously.
There is 1 red 72 a couple counties away and has been available about 3 or 4 weeks.
All of the previous red models sold within a couple of weeks or even a few days.
It IS June so the buying cycle may be different now.
I haven't seen a NEW 72 in any of the HD dealerships since last summer.
So, to answer the OP's original question about no love for the 72?
Apparently not enough since they are discontinuing its production.
