Always take the foot rest off if you are going into the derby cover.. I'd try to cut the screw head with a dremel and use a flat head screwdriver. Worst case, you damage the derby cover and then you have an excuse to buy one with a design on it (they aren't bad priced). Get new screws from your dealer.

OH ok....so I can put the oil thru that inspection cover, that should be fine. I have some long funnels that should work. Then I can just leave the stripped screw for now.

I'll have no reason to take it off if I can just put oil in thru that small cover for chain. Thanks all!!!

Replace the torx with allen head. Much easier next time. Every time I take a torx out it gets replaced.

You will eventually need to remove the derby cover for other adjustments. Filling through the inspection cover solves the immediate issue. Address the stripped screw. Address the stripped screw prior to needing to be in there. That way the next project won't begin with frustration caused by a past mistaken left unfixed.

Also, look at the service manual and youtube videos (Delboys garage is great) BEFORE you start the project to know what you're getting into/doing.

Don't feel bad, I recently had to replace #12 on mine when swapping out the chain inspection cover.

Oh and you are right..I was using T25, didnt think it was anything higher. Didnt even have a T27, nor own one, but yes it stripped pretty quick. Learning lesson!
It doesn't sound to me as if you are using a factory service manual! That tells you to use a T27, also to remove that footrest and how to do so.

Yep, no service manual and I am thinking he doesn't need a service manual as much as he needs a good Indy, seems to be dangerous with tools in hand.

just to be fair...mine (none of the ones i have) make no mention of t27 until the hand controls section (searched it just now)... he doesn't have a manual yet.

I picked up this set for like $30 at sears an it's handy for Harley....every common size is in the set...pretty good quality...not snap on quality but it's not $550 either...anyway this is handy for jobs like that, you can try dif ones...sometimes it feels like a fit but there's another one that's really the correct one...using a T25 in a T27 for example"

Or o to a inkjet ink supply shop and buy a massive syringe (about $5) and use that to both measure and inject the oil into the case. Or pick one up on ebay.
