Used sportsters-What are they really worth.
I have been lots of ad surfing and to ME, it seems like many of them are overpriced. I had negotiated a deal for a 03 883 with 5400 miles, new tires, brakes, battery and has VH pipes for $3300. I think that's decent, but its about 200 miles away. Don't want to drive that far. Then, there is a 2000 883 with 8700 miles next town over from me- old *** tires, stock everything and he wants $3000.......Most ads seem to be consistent with the latter.

like anything else it's worth what you can get and or willing to take. I sold my v rod for $400 less than I wanted because he had the cash an I didn't want to wait who knows how long for someone willing to pay "what it's worth". I looked at a few sportys but ended up on a fat boy....there was an 07 or 08 right by me...883 chopped fender nice bars an a few things an his asking price was down to $3800 when I looked at it. it was low miles too. Not trying to make the sporty community mad but they don't hold value like a big twin, my v rod didn't either. If you add "chrome" this an that do it because you like it, don't expect the next guy to pay for it added to the price when you sell....I take stuff off an sell it an put the bike back to stock. most people want to do their own thing anyway.
so a bike is worth what you will pay an the seller will take...I'd offer $2500 on the 2000 an if he didn't take it walk.

U are right on the money. Got him down to $2500 but I am suspicious. He said he has had it for 1.5 months. Said he had bought a Bike two years ago, didn't like it, sold it, and tried again this year, but still doesn't like it. The ad has been up for a month. So, he had it for two weeks and decided to sell it? Should I stay away?

Some owners think they can get $5,000 and $6000 for a 15 year old Sportster. It's so easy to look up the Kelly Blue Book value or the NADA value. I don't pay more than either of those two sites value the bike at. I present a figure to the seller and they most likely did their homework too.

People are asking outrageous prices. Even more if they've put money on modifications. But just try to sell yourself, you'll see that no one right in their mind will pay for your mods or even for the blue book price. There is always tires, oil, brakes, scratches, plugs, normal wear etc...
