The clan will be heading to Kitty Hawk / Southern Shores on the outer banks for the week of the 4th.

My son-in-law (2014 Street Bob but he's not a bad guy ) and I will be doing the ride up there together.

If these old(er) bones still feel like riding after the 480 mile road trip from the Upstate SC to the outer banks, we plan on taking a couple half-day rides while there. Maybe down to Roanoke Island or somewhere on the mainland.

My problem is, I've never been there and don't want to waste half a day just trying to find a decent place to ride to.

Does anyone have experience riding along the NC shore and have some observations or suggestions to offer?

 

Used to live on the OBX..Roanoke is Cool.. but Day Trip over to Ocracoke Via the Free Ferry..Motorcycles Don't have to wait in line and usually Board right away..rode that Boat back and forth from my Shop in Ocracoke to Hatteras every day.
Please remember that the OBX is a type A Environment..Wax the Sh_t out of them before you go near that place and rinse em off while your there..doesn't take long for em to rust up at all..some times as little as a day in that Salt air Mist.

I thought about a trip down to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse and a loop around Roanoke. I had heard about the ferry but I didn't know it was free and easy to use. Thanks for the info.

Thankfully I'm into the "rusty patina" look, and my bike is "pre resto" stage so I'm not too worried about the salt air.
