What bike nearly tempted you to trade in the Sportster?
#31
I wanted a softail until I sat on one. It's just too low for me. It feels like the whole bike is down near my knees. My sportster is my 1st bike, and I'll never trade it in. It feels too small for me now though. I'm 6' tall and even with the handlebars pushed a ways forward and with forward controls, I feel like I'm on a kid's bike. As soon as finances allow, I'm bringing home a street bob.

and older low mile street bob will cost you less than you paid for your 72 (~11k). dynas seem to not hold value well... not sure why... (i'm pretty sure why)
ex (asking[not getting] $7,900):

the hard part is finding one that hasn't been super customized. take one of those and and older unmolested sporty and you could have both for less than you are probably paying and get the multi bike insurance discount that will bring your insurance down to a few bucks more than you are probably now paying.

i'm not sure what you are paying now for your 2015 72, and i know you said you don't want to trade it but...

Considering that funding is always a consideration, the likelihood would be I'd have to sell the Sporty. I also don't have a garage to store a bike.
In no particular order, here are five bikes I'd like to have:
Softail Heritage
Road King
Low Rider
BMW 1200GSw
Ducati Diavel
Of the five above I believe the 1200GSw checks off the most things I would want in a motorcycle other than my Sportster.

age really doesn't matter when you are looking for the best deal. that 2009 sat in a garage for 8 years probably.
my 2007 sporty sat hostage in a garage with 187 miles on it for about 5 years before i got it. i paid ~4400 for it. that 1/2 the price of a cliche iron. new bikes are not a good move unless you just HAVE TO HAVE that shiney thing at the dealer.

I wanted to get back into riding after a long, long hiatus. I decided to get a Sporty Custom to see if I still liked riding. Well, that bug got me good and wanted to trade up after a couple years on the Sporty. I decided on a Road King, but I just couldn't part ways with that Sporty and first Harley. The Sporty is still great fun to ride and a nice change of pace from the King.

I enjoyed my Sporty for 7 years but it never lived up to what i wanted in a bike. I have it out in the yard for sale since purchasing a barely used 15 Road Glide Special in March. I ride the Sporty about once a month to keep it lubed up and other than that its like riding a moped compared to my Road Glide. There isn't a anything that the Sportster does better than my RGS other than get better MPG. I wasn't temped i just didn't have the cash to pay for it until this year. I knew what i wanted a long time ago and bought it. Don't get me wrong the Sporty is a cool bike but it is what it is.
