I rode the 14 XL1200T Superlow on a 1,700 mile ride down to the southern part of Arkansas and road up through Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa.
The route is a American Legion Memorial Highway. Being a former Post Commander in the American Legion I felt I had to ride it.
The route until northern Missouri and Iowa is full of twisties and hills of course.
I stayed two nights in motels and was home by the third evening. Just rode at the speed limits and looked at the scenic views. Light traffic. Enough small towns along the way with gas stations so there was no concern for fuel. The bike got 53 mpg all the way and gas was from $1.849 to $1.999. I was filling up by the B trip odometer at 125 to 135 miles so I never went past 2.4 to 2.6 gallons.
Any time I am in the South I stop at a Waffle House and have the hash browns "All the Way". They load them with chili, gravy, ham, bacon, mushrooms, jalapenos and other things. An explosion of tastes in your mouth. And a lot of gas the next day.
The T is a great choice of bike for that type of ride. It flicks around the corners and charges the steep grades with the best of them. I have a Sundowner seat on it which is very comfortable.
That is the third tour that I took with it. The first year was Sturgis, last year was to Vegas then Laughlin River Run. For a three day trip the saddle bags held all that I needed. On a longer trip I have a piece of luggage that straps to the sissy bar.
