Over kill. People have put over 100, 000 miles without it. I won't go to the trouble of doing it.

I read somewhere in that post "I change my oil every 1000 miles" and they were so proud of themselves for it. If you have a new car and put synthetic in it you'll notice they tell you when the oil needs to be replaced as they sense it. Peopes lively hood as petroleum engineers is to run the numbers and see how long you can run oil and when it breaks down. The motor was designed that way not because of an oversight but because it wasn't necessary to redesign it to get wvery drop out. Do the work as you want but you bought a harley for a reason. I still have faith in American engineering.

Agree entirely! I've done over half a million miles on my bikes and it is only in the last few years that a cupful of oil has become an issue. Ride on!

If you're really worried about it, save your money and just run oil through until you see clean oil coming out the drain tube. I know guys who flush the engine with kerosene to clean the tappets every X amount of miles, too.

don't sweat it. focus more on not overfilling your oil. after the draining/filter swap, add your two quarts and then start the bike... test the diptick.... add more if needed

You can also buy a remote oil change adapter, drill an extra hole in it , install some fittings, and make an oil scavenger to get the remaining quart of used oil out of the bottom of your engine.
You simply drain the oil as usual, remove the old oil filter, install the "scavenger device", fill the oil tank with new oil, and run the engine till clean oil comes out of a splice in the engine oil return line.

Install for this is in several places and on YouTube. . . search for Sportster Oil Scavenger.

I did it. . .pics are here. . .
