Haven't had a Sportster since the mid 80s ...
I briefly owned an old iron head sporty on a hard tail frame with a veeeeerrrry long girder front end back in the 80s. Recently had been eyeing the 72s at the stealer. And I rode one of my club brother's sporty bobber back from Norfolk last month and found I missed the stripped down, no windshield feel sometimes. I sold my Buell and one of my SuperGlides to a couple brothers a month ago. Walked into a Victory dealer looking for a part for my OL's Eightball and saw a beautiful used Metal Flake Green 72 for dirt cheap. A 2013 with 1200 miles on it. The price was right so I snatched it up.
Love it so far. Have had to replace the battery, extend the seat, and get memory foam to cushion the ride. A spring solo is coming. As is Full Boar slip-ons, Ness Big Sucker, Xieds, bitch pad and bar. Maybe a few more doodads.
My OL has been riding it a lot more than me. She loves it. It's been a very long time since I owned one.
Having a blast (except for the tank size, LOL).

Love the color!
That green was probably my second favorite...right behind the Hard Candy "Big Red" Flake that I bought!
Tank size??
Just another excuse to go ride...gotta go get some gas!
I traded for mine last spring with just 1,100 miles on the clock and have enjoyed logging an additional 3,700 miles.
This thing's a blast.
Congrats again!

Really cool that you're still ridin' the same bike.
The stripped down, no frills, no nonsense ride of a Sporty really is hard to beat.
I had one, sold it and missed it every day until I (recently) bought another. I just love mine to death! It's just like pure distilled 'essence of motorcycling' to me.
BTW, love the green on yours!

Thnx guys. I almost traded my Gremlin today on an M8 Street Bob. The math didn't make sense though. And he was gleaming in the sun so beautifully.
So now I'm trying to finagle 12" narrow apes, shrouded 11" shocks, anodized gold derby and timing covers, and signal relocation. Gonna match the paint on my side covers and repaint tank with old style flames. On the engine I need a DK custom tune circuit, Big Sucker, and eventually Buell heads and cam.
I rode him on my 4 hr round trip commute yesterday and was pretty comfy with the seat work. Love the sound and he turns heads at the gas pump.
