I bought a sportster as my first entry-level bike. I wanted something cheap and "light". Now I wish I had a dyna

Having owned and ridden them all, a Sporty is a great choice. Definitely more raw, but that's part of the fun.

I too have gone from an FLHTC to an XL1200. And I love it. Fast, easy to handle, and like someone said a nice pallet to build on. So go for it and have fun. That's the name of the game isn't it?

First, don't call it "trading down". You're right sizing. Sportsters aren't a down grade at all, they're great, versatile bikes. Get what fits, you'll be happier in the long term.

FWIW I used to have a Road King. I have a 1200C. I wouldn't go back.

I read a lot of comments about Sportsters not being suitable for 2 up.
What is it that makes them unsuitable,we ride 2 up on a FatBob all the time, usually 350-450 miles a day, with a Sundowner seat & the dimensions of the Sportster Sundowner are the same as the Dyna.
I'm not arguing the case we've never ridden a Sportster 2 up,i'm just curious what makes them unsuitable, because i intend to trade our FatBob for a Sportster, soon as i get a deal.

What makes a Sportster unsuitable while 2 up is the person handling the bike , no other reason , I know you have seen much smaller bikes with 2 up . There is only 3 inches difference in wheel base between the Sportster Roadster and a Touring bike I know as I have them both and at 63 when I want to go out and have fun it's the sportster and when I just want to be a Geezer it's the Tour Glide , It's YOUR own personal preference . I am going to suggest to rent a bike style for a day to see what YOU like as I like having 2 bikes

good to know. I'm on an iron right now and I really want a street bob, so the info is useful. Won't be selling the sportster, just hoping to add to the stable the beginning of next year.
