Sporty belts are the same spec as used on the Glides, in fact having altered my Glide's rear gearing I now use a Sporty belt (slightly shorter than stock Glides), with my S&S 107" bike. The belt should last as long as the pulleys, although it seems to be the larger rear one that wears out first. Or in other words a very long time! Just be sure to check tension at regular intervals and use the factory tool. It's cheap and mine is going fine after 26 years!

cheers,
I changed mine proactively at 75,000 miles.
I've seen some here have them break at ~60,000 miles, but a lot depends on how well they are adjusted and the abuse they get.

FWIW...it is a rubber product so age also needs to be considered in addition to mileage.

None the less, there are not many belt failure stories unless a rock got between the sprocket and belt that I recall reading about on this forum.

50,000 life seems like great preventative mileage maintenance.
How many belts will you change over the life of the Sportster?
Although from what I have read 75K to 100K is a standard belt life with no failure.

Good luck in your maintenance decisions.

I'm still running the stock belt on my '96 Glide with 147k miles ... I think it mainly depends on how you take care of the belt and how you ride ...

Thanks to all that responded.

With the number of people on the forum I guessed there would be one or two HD techies who might have known the schedule but it seems not to be the case.

Although my belt has seen 100K miles with no issues I am not surprised she still running well. I guess I will see how long she will run.

The Israel weather is hotter than most cities in the US with little rain fall which may lend to a longer life.

I will respond here again when I do change her out but as of now I expect another 50K.

cheers to all,

DWS

Thumbs up

David, it could be said that your belt has earned it's retirement! Although that also means your front and rear pulleys have as well. When do you sleep?!

As a final note, I found this in the How too's section of the site (who knew
)

"It's not uncommon for a Sportster owner to go between 50,000 and 100,000 miles on their original drive belt."

Cheers,

The lowest i saw here was 30k. Some folks swait for it to go bad, others do it as preventive maintenance. I cool with 30k just to not worry about it. It's my bike and my life. YMMV.
