I personally don't bother with that kind of stuff. I just change the oil every 3kish. I would be prepared to run into a few issues that may or may not pop up from sitting. Its up to you though.

I pretty much agree with what Yamaharley said. Oil probably in the crankcase. Only difference I would do is put 1 quart of oil in just to be sure. Once it all pumps up into the tank you will be changing it out anyway.

Don't forget to give the carb a good cleaning too, 13 years is a long time without gas through it. You may want to open the primary side and I think you'll find the oil you lost, they have a tendency to drain into it. Have fun with it.

I wouldn't add any additional oil YET.

I would pull the spark plugs and crank the engine over for 10-15 seconds a few times.
Then I would check to see if any oil returned to the oil tank.

Adding oil can not HURT anything with the exception of a possible oil overflow out of the tank. I personally would not chance cranking/running with NO oil. But to each his own.

I personally wouldn't crank it over if I wasn't for sure that it did indeed have oil in it. It may or may not have oil in the case. It'd be worth the couple minutes to drain/catch the case and refill with the proper amount of oil. My 2 cents. Take it for what it's worth.
