Question

The title says it al, cept: there's no oil in the reservoir, I took the gass tank off ..it's dry, I plan on replacing the cables and need help with ..where did the oil go?

And what would you recommend? it's a 883 to 1200 Bartels, single fire ignition, drag pipes 10.5:1 compression..and I need a seat ..picks to come...

and I have a **** tone of polishing to do

Oil may have drained into the crankcase. It may sump oil when started. Dam 13 years, must feel good getting it back in shape. And welcome to the forum.

Nope don't fill it yet but watch it carefully to make sure it has some oil moving around. I'm so sorry to hear that about your wife. She's probably smiling down knowing you'll be enjoying the bike again. Keep us posted on getting it running.

Look in the tank with a flashlight, also keep an eye on the crankcase breather. The breather will puke a little if it's sumping. What year is your sportster?

That's going to be a fun project. Don't forget to change the fork oil as well as brake fluid too. As well as check the tires for dry rot. The ignition shouldn't be too bad, I would be sure to get a factory service manual if you don't already.
