Default 2011 Iron battery help

Anyone know the trick to getting a replacement battery into a 2011 Iron? The new battery is exactly the same size as the original, but the ground cable doesn't seem to have anywhere to go to allow the battery to get fully into the box. I've tried attaching the cable to the top of the post as well as the front with similar results. Ridiculous I know, but very frustrating. There has to be something I'm missing.

Per the Service Manual, you're supposed to disconnect the negative cable from the motor/tranny bolt, not the battery, The cable then pulls out with the battery. Re-installation follows the reverse of the above, feeding the negative cable through the hole in the back of the battery box as the battery is pushed in.
