I didn't on mine. Think about it. The modulator makes the turn signals work as run and brake. If the original tail light is left in place the brake and run still work as normal. So use those wires to any other auxiliary light and it will work the same way

I would say that using the colours on your light.
Black to black
Red to Orange/white
Yellow to red/yellow as that comes from the rear brake switch looking at th emanual

this was taken from the 2010 manual

There are two running light wires. One isn't used. It's for an overseas model from what I understand

Note to self...read everything

there should be a harness/plug under the seat towards the back or mooshed in there somewhere and should also have a big white tag on it

there will be a few wires in this harness maybe 8 i dont remember
cant remember the colors exact in this plug either

there is a blue wire in the plug -- this will goto the red wire of the new light

there is a red with a white stripe in the same plug--- this will goto the yellow of the new light

just use wire splice tap or t-tap splicer and u should be set

the lights ground u can ground anywhere u want

if u tap into the wires leading to the turn signals they will flash and freak out
u have to tap into the plug/harness i speak of and should work fine
