Default HD Iron 883: Clearance between rear fender and tire

Hello,

I bought a custom 2013 HD Iron 883. It was converted to a hardtail and fender was chopped. Even though I like the look, I'd like to switch it to shocks. Right now I have a clearance of about 1 inch between rear fender and tire. What should be the clearance if I have to put shocks. HD service people couldn't provide me an answer. I'm thinking of getting the burly slammer shocks which are 10.5". The struts are 10". so if I go with burly, then I will have a total clearance of 1.5". is that enough? thoughts please.
I weigh about 165lb and ride solo. Dont plan to add any luggage rack or anything.
I was thinking about doing a swingarm mounted fender too. Please let me know what your thoughts on that as well and how to do it.

Thanks!
