Default gas tank size ???

I have a 2000 XL 1200 CUSTOM.
My owners manual shows it has a total of 4.40 galminis a.50 reserve.
But my CLYMER service manual shows 3.30 gal with a .50 reserve.
I dont know if Im suppose to add or subtract the reserve on the CLYMER.
I dont believe the tank total is 4.40 because when I hit reserve, I have about 134 - 147 miles on it, and it onley takes 2.80 gal to fill.
If I add the .50 to that it only totals about 3.30 gal.
If I had a 4.40 total like the owners manual said that would show a reserve of 1.60 gal, that would be great, but I dont really know.
Do any of you know the real size of my tank ?...thanks.

I not sure about the 2000 models but the 2007 models have a 3.3 gallon tank on the standards and a 4.4 gallon tank on the custom. Sorry couldn't help more.

Redsman777.

Thats the same size my manual shows.
After I get down to the reserve it only takes 2.80 gal to fill. That would give me a reserve of 1.60 gal, that seems like to much for a reserve to me...

You have the 3.3 gal tank, same as my 2000 XL1200C. Don't believe they came out with the larger tank till the frame/mounting changes in 04? Your very close to my fuel portions, with approx 50 mpg it all jives...

Your CLYMERS manual sounds it would be more useful as toilet paper. My HD Service Manual show the 'peanut tank' only for all 2000 XLH models.

'brauny1'

Thanks for the info. But it's the HARLEY DAVIDSON manual that shows the
4.4 tank size. The CLYMER shows a 3.3 gal tank, so they got it right.
Odd that the HARLEY owners manual would be the one off...

In 2000, you definitely have the 3.3. Did not offer the 4.4 untill 2004. Your mileage is exactly what I get on my 2003.
