The sportster went to FI in 07. The BT's started using FI a couple years earlier, not sure exactly what year.

The first production model BT to use EFI was the 1995 30th Anniversity Ultra Classic, and in 1996 EFI was more widely used.
Fuel injection in the Harley lineup is not new, and has been around for over 12 years.

Figured I'd reply to this vs starting a new thread
Anyways, new here. Looking to purchase either a 2006 or 2007 XL883R-I in Japan. The shop I went to had a 2006 model that they said is fuel injected. From what my research says a 2006 should be carb'd not EFI. But looking at the bike I don't see a carburetor, although I haven't seen an 883 carb before and can't find too many pictures online. Wondering if the -I at the end of the model means it's fuel injected? Or maybe someone modded it to have EFI?
Attached pictures of the bike. It's extremely clean and looks well taken care of. The 2007 that they have is grey, and I think I'd rather have orange, just want to figure out if it's fuel injected from the factory or not. Next time I go look at it I'm going to check and make sure the frame and engine number match. Where exactly is the engine number located?
