progressive rear shocks on xl1200r
Hello people, I have a new xl1200roadster and as anyone can attest the rear shocks (what rear shocks?) are crap. I tried top setting (stiff) and almost launched myself on a bump and i tried soft (lowest) setting and almost broke some teeth. the bike is in the middle setting right now and still bottoms on some bumps and potholes. The local shop is pushing progressive suspension shocks for a better ride and they have 3 models to choose from. Model #412, #418, and #440.(412 being oem replacement and 440 being the best) Does anyone have these on their bike? Any experience with them at all? I'd like to take the wife for a ride someday so I'd really appreciate the feedback.

RE: progressive rear shocks on xl1200r
Some people have complained about 412's not being that great a replacement for their rubbermount. Some like them and some said they were as bad or worse than stock. 418's and 440's are both good shocks, but they'll cost you. Which ones you want depends on the type of riding you plan on doing; someone more knowledgable can probably assist you there. I think the 440's are more for a smoother ride, while the 418 for a more sportier ride. The 418's are the more adjustable shocks and allow you to adjust rebound dampening and spring preload. Just remember to keep your roadster shock length and resist the temptation to lower your ride.

RE: progressive rear shocks on xl1200r
i have a sportster 1200 R 2005 since august,i have 47 years old my first Harley, always have sport bike before, and yes the rear shocks are a joke. I buy a set of Progressive suspension model 440 with heavy duty springs in stock lenght ,it's nite and day.i also put a set of springs in the fork too to match the rear. You must have these parts on your bike...Pierre[8D]
