I've used parts from Ultimate Mobiles on both Buell and Sporty, they have a variety of things to conjure with.

I think the solution I have on my Buell will do the trick. I have one of the 25 ***** on the end of a stud, which replaces one of the handlebar clamp screws. All you have left on the bike is the ball, after removing the gps. Onto that goes a detachable universal mount, retained by a threaded collar. To that mount I have my TomTom mount. When using my tankbag I use an extender, to lift the gps into view. With a Harley and US threads it may require a bit of jiggling, but hey, you're getting expert at that!

This is the basic device I have on my Buell, UK Ebay #381634527006. They make other variations with a different adapter. My TomTom screws on via the four mounting holes. You will need a suitable UNC/UNF screw, but they are available on Ebay. The mount is screwed off by hand, just leaving a 25mm ball. Have a browse through buybits.com's website.
