Default what size gas tank is it??

I have a 1988 Sportster that started its life as an 883 Hugger. It has the stock fuel tank on it. How many gallons is it? I can usually go around 90 miles before I have to hit the reserve. When I put gas in it (around $3.00/gallon it takes between $5.00 and $6.00 to fill it to the top. It definately isn't the little peanut sized tank. My buddy has one on his 1996. Mine is bigger. Many guys have referred to it as a King Sportster Tank. It had the stock 1988 Sportster 883 round decal on each side when i first got it.
I am in the process of getting a new tank and I want to make sure I order a bigger tank than the one I already have.

How about a picture. Could be a 2.3 or 3.3 but you should be getting more than90 miles before reserve on the 3.3.

However they make aftermarket Sporster tanks that have the look of the classic peanut in sizes 2.2--3.5 gallon

I will sometimes have to goon "reserve" after 90-92 miles dpending on the speed and conditions I've been driving and I have the 3.3 gallon tank. I agree you should get in the 105-120 range before reserve, but without a lot of experience with the bike, it could be a 3.3 gallon tank. The orignal "peanut" tank was 2.25 gallons. A picture would be helpful.

I posted the above because I have a 883 and get 150+ before I go to "reserve"

Well, if at 3 bucks a gallon it takes you 6 bucks to fill it.......

It's probably a 2.2 with a right side petcock. If you plan on getting rid of it when you get a new one let me know,I'd be interested in buying it.

Nope, he's right. 3 X 6= 18. Figure 5 gallons reserve, that's about a 23 gallon tank.
