RE: RPM at hiway speeds
Guys, telling him what your 1200 has doesn't to much good. The 1200 runs about 10mph faster for the same rpms as the 883 because it is geared differently.
My 883R ran 70mph at around 3,800 in 5th gear and about 74mph if you hold it exactly at 4,000 rpm in 5th. 80mph, if I remember correctly, was around 4,500 and 90mph is around 5,000 -- roughly speaking.
EDIT: So you're not redlined...to answer your question.
EDIT 2: Oh, and I did install a tachometer on my 883R when I had it, so I know those are about right.

Don't worry, as long as you are not in Neutral, and there is a load on the engine, you can't over rev them.. There are two built in safety factores. First: Electronic ignition on the newer ones is rev limited to protect the engine, and Second: When the wheels come off the ground, the bike will slow down to protect the rider from excessive speed.

You're right...finally sacked-up and ran her up to 80 and held it for a while. Vibes eased after about 75 mph, ran smooth at 80, but felt like I was gonna fly off the bike. Goin to the local stealer today to see about swapping for a 95 DWG. 38K miles and asking 9250 for their bike. Gonna shoot em an offer and stick to it.
