Default Gas Caps - Vented/Non-vented?

OK - here goes my stupid question of the night. Talking gas caps here, if I was wanting to change my current gas cap on my bike ('07 Nightster). Which type of cap would I want to go with - vented or non-vented, and why one over the other? Go ahead slam me now, I don't have thin skin. I know some might think this is a stupid question, but what the heck I'll ask anyways cause I'm not sure.

So did I..

NYTSTR, be very cautious if you are replacing your cap with an aftermarket unit. The '07-up (not sure about before that) have a "rod" (for lack of a better term) inside the filler neck, and a lot of the vented caps won't clear it. Best advice I can give you is to call whomever it is you are buying from and ask them SPECIFICALLY if it will fit your year and model. It'll save you some time & expense.
