Are you just replacing stock cables or adding extended lines to accomodate larger handlebars?

I'm adding DWG mini-apes and need extended lines. I'm going with stock HD braided/extended length cables:

Brake, 45397-04, $61.95
Clutch, 38734-04, $79.99
Throttle, 56723-04, $118.95

I didn’t ask….what year and model do you have?

Refer to 2006 HD parts catalog pages 631-637 for other models and years. For 2004-2006 XL883C and XL1200C models…

Key: Application, part number, price, length compared to stock in inches

Stock lengths braided:

Brake, 45489-04, $61.95 +0
Clutch, 38727-04, $79.99 +0
Throttle, 56564-02, $118.95 +0

Extended braided (Based on extra length needed for DWG mini-apes. Other handlebar selections may vary.):

Brake, 45397-04, $61.95 +4 **
Clutch, 38734-04, $79.99 +6
Throttle, 56723-04, $118.95 +6

** Note: There is some discussion regarding the correct brake line applications for newer Sportsters due to the banjo ends. The extended brake line shown here is for the 01-05 FXDL but HD parts guy swears it is a bolt-on extended length replacement for my Sportster.

Hope this helps some. I didn't research other brands - trying to keep most of my mods HD. If you are just looking for cosmetic, another option is to put braided sleeves over your stock cables. That's potentially a cheaper way to go for the same esthetic result.

bensonj - sporties since 04 have the same size banjo ends - I needed 8" longer lines and ended up with Russel lines from the dealer - the had to order them - 3 piece(hose, 2 fittings) - I asked to see what they were talking about with different size ends but was pressed for time (snuck out to the dealer on a break to hide the latest mods form my loving, understanding, supportive wife) - Tim insisted lines from any other model would not work, but I did not see the line to decide - if ordering from JP, I would not have saved a penny, in fact, Got 10% off and they did the thinking - reading the darn charts makes my eyes blurr - or was that the last beer

will be out there again soon as buying a harley has caused a major health problem that can only be cured by multiple trips to the doctor - opps, dealer

molsenice,

so its the older (pre-2004 models) Sporties with the issues of compatibility of etended brake lines? I thought our new ones were the troublemakers. Good to know, thanks.

Gotta get my own beer now. New mufflers went on so fast, didn't have time to crack one open.

There are 2 different size fittings used from 1984 to 2003, 10 mm and 12 mm. A 10 mm banjo fitting will have an inside diameter of .400. A 12 mm banjo fitting will have an inside diameter of .480. Most stock brake calipers 1984 - 2003 are 10 mm except Springer Softails® and FXD Super Glides which are 12 mm.

think we got that backwards so I'll try again

any sportie pre 04 and most models any year share a brake line with one size fitting on one end and a differant size on the other - leading to a large selection to choose from in dealer stock for whateer length is needed. from 04 and up on the sporties, BOTH ends are the same size - leading to no large dealer stock of different sizes thus I needed to use the russel brake line and the separate fittings, to get the same size on each end.

Mine are the "Braided Stainless Steel" by Harley Davidson as shown in their new 2006 catolog on page 119.
