Default Dynas and Sportsters related?

I have seen more than a few accessories in catalogs/websites that list certain years of Dyna's in conjunction with sportster (XL) bikes. Are they related or share a lot of factory parts?

The front ends are basically the same, so most front end accessories like windshields, mirrors, etc....will fit both bikes. I'm sure they share some other components as well.

My 04 Sporster has a windshield and front fork brace that went on my brother N laws 2000 Low rider. The detatchable backrest that I had previously installed will fit as well. The only thing so far that I have found that has been an issue Is the Seat. The Dyna models seat doesn't have a hole near the front of the seat for the mounting Post on the sporty. My guess is that you could drill the needed hole in the seat pan and it would fit fine.

They are closer than any Dyna rider would like to admit and getting closer, my 05 has a wider rear tire than any Dyna that is more than about two years old three now that the 06's are out. The 1200R shares the same front tire. The only advantage I see is 4" more wheelbase on the Dyna and the Twin Cam 88, all an advantage for smoothness of ride and not much else.

04 + Sportsters are more "Dyna" than they are "Sportster". (mini Dynas if you will) 03 was the last of the "Sportster's" IMO. I may get flamed but that is just my opinion. If you fit real good on a Sporty, no need for a Dyna really. I am pretty tall, and fit the WG like a glove. I kept my 03 Sporty though.........Last year for them and all![8D]

Ok,let the flameing begin.

Ahh, yer '03 is a freakin' Evo model. Sportsters died when the last Ironhead rolled out the door.

(How's that fer a nice and mild flame? )
