Default Motorcycle insurance question

Hi, I just got insurance for my 1991 Sportster 1200, is there anyone out there who could tell me the average cost per year? Here's my coverage: I'm paying $692.00 per year. (I'm new to this)

Bodily injury $15,000/person
(includes guest passenger $30,000/accident

Property damage $15,000/accident

Uninsured/Underinsured $15,000/person
Motorist Bodily Injury $30,000/accident

Uninsured Motorist Property $3,500/accident

Damage/Coll. Ded. Waiver

Also depends on your driving record. $58.00 per month seems high to me, but there are many factors to take into account. Your best bet is to just shop around.

It depends on so many things that it's all but impossible to compare rates on a forum like this. Location, age, driving record, credit rating, etc, etc. All I can do is suggest you shop the area you're in for rates.

My being a retired insurance claims manager I will tell you that the coverage limits you're looking at come up way short of what you should consider carrying.

My insurance company, as I believe most others, base a lot of the premium's rate on rider's experience, credit rating (sorry to say),plus type of bike. Harley's have good insurance stats so that's a good thing. I pay 108.00/year (12 months coverage)for:

Bodily injury $100,000/person,$300,000/accident

Property damage $50,000/accident

Uninsured/Underinsured $100,000/person
Motorist Bodily Injury $300,000/accident

Uninsured Motorist Property $10,000/accident

Collision ($250 ded.)and towing

I have been riding accident-free for 44 years and I know that helps - a lot!

Hey Kelton! I have the same levels of coverage as Thumper. I wouldn't be comfortable with less coverage. You could save a buck or so with a higher deductable, but depending on your carrier the savings may not be worth the risk.

I pay $460 per year for an '07 FXD and an '07 1200N. It would be a lot lower, but my wife is a new rider which almost doubles her side of the policy.

Thumper... just a thought, but I don't see any Med Pay/PIP coverage on there. I know it sure came in handy in Jan. when my SO hit the dog.

We paid approximate $160.00 per month for ins. on the 2 bikes for six months, which covered the whole year.

In addition, We paid 118.00 for a year for the medical coverage on 2 bikes... its 10K which is better than nothing.
