No, it does not. But be careful to not let that come out. It's a royal PAIN to get it back in place if you do.

Shouldn't be a problem, unless you do something stupid, like intentially pull it off to check it out. [:@]

Make sure the bike is straight up (not on kickstand) when you pull that cover off. Some of the tranny oil will leak out if the bike isn't straight up. I highly recommend some anti-sieze compound on those screws when you re-install. You'll thank me for that someday.

hab-
Not too sure what exactly you are doing but....
Last weekend pulled the cover on the G/F's SuperGlideto put her new "bling-bling" cover on. Found out the OEM has a oring, and the "bling-bling" cover takes a solid foam gasket. Not sure if the XL's are the same or not. Worth looking into to save a trip to the stealer.
Also, if ya do pull the o-ring out as Sporty said not to do, I found a very small amount of axle grease will hold it in place until secured.
Good Luck!!!!

oh yeah- FYI- I have yet to get those dang torx heads out without drilling the heads for the bolts off and replacing them with 1/4x3/4 fine thread stainless allens. Hopefully you have better luck than me!

I put a new one on but probibly didn't need to as the old one looked fine.
One thing to know if you are buying a new gasket is it is a lot smaller diameter than the outside of the cover, I thought they were trying to sell me the wrong one at first.

Hey while you are at it take some pics and write up a how-to with pics added. Would be real helpful for others down the road on here.

Do yourself a favor and throw the torx/star head screws away.Nothing but trouble. The local ace hardware store will have allen head bolts in the same size, maybe even chrome ones.So the next time you take the derby cover off it will be easier.

Why does everyone hate the torx bolts? I have never had a problem with them on any application. Use the right size torx head and a ratchet and seems to work just dandy.

I have taken my derby covers off a million times. The problem is the first time. The bolts are suppose to be set at between 8 and 12 inch pounds. On my new Ultra of course they were way to fricken tight. They all sripped. Had to use an easy out which actually broke inside one of the ofthe bolts. How much torque you think it took to break an easy out? Way more than 8 inch pounds. Ever try to drill out a broken bolt with an easy out in the center? I was beyond pissed doing my 1000 on my new bike.

That is why guyshate them. Ace is the place!!!!!

Replaced derby cover ,removed 5 t-27 screws no problem the last one stripped
out the head I had to used a dremel to cut a slot whereas I used a flat head screw
driver to remove it what a pain its all done didn't lose any fluid I really appreciate the
input it helped me out big time.
