Default 1200 Custom - tank shift or jockey shift?

I have found the next direction I am going with the Sportster, rocker clutch and tank shift or jockey shift. Which one works best, tank shifter or jockey shift???

The tank shifter seems like it would be awful close to the horn cover and I don't know how it would work with the larger gas tank on the Customs. Anybody done a tank shifter before?

How are you going to do a rocker clutch? I'd be very interested to know because I am not used to a suicide clutch and would love to put a jockey shift on my bike if it could be setup with a rocker clutch like I am used to.

I also agree that a tank shift would probably be pretty awkward to do unless you relocated the horn somehow.

I think you will get more responses on xlforum or quadcambastards about this topic, number of posts about tank vs jockey. I dont remeber seeing much about a rocker clutch...but thats just an opp for you to make one work.

I have seen tank shift work by using the horn mount as a pivot for the shift linkage and moving the horn, looks good. La Briola makes a super pricey jockey set up, and another company that actually posts on xlforum makes a cheaper one I think.

Thanks for the info. So far, the local indy and everything I can find online, there is no rocker clutch. Might be able to fabricate one, or modify a suicide clutch? Will search xlforums.

If your sporty is a everyday rider, I would think twice about a tank shift or jocky shift! They look kewl, but it would be a handful to ride everyday..
Theres a reason it`scall a "suicide" shift !!!!!
Just my two cents...............

+1

I wanted the labriola jockey shift foot clutch setup but theres this one hill in laconia that I get stuck on about 2 times every bike week and maybe 3 or 4 more times through out the season. This one killa hill makes me a little worried about coming across others like it and I don't think I could handle foot clutching on it. The labriola is pretty damn nice though!!! If you really want a jockey I would highly recommend it.

To each their own. You know that could be said for a lot of things guys do with their Sportsters.

I think it will be a nice addition to my bike and give me a completely different ride. I live in the country so not much stop and go, rush hour type traffic. Only problem I can see is I am in north Georgia so it is pretty hilly.

I have been practicing for a couple weeks to see if I can stop every time without my left foot and I have been fine so far. I figure I will just give it a go and get a labriola jockey shift then see if I can modify or fab a rocker clutch from it. You only live one.
