Default Do you use cruise control?

Getting geared up for a 4 hour rode trip down the California coast and wanted to know what ur thoughts were on using the cruise control. Is it easy? What happened if you down shift? Or can u not down shift. How similar is it to a cars cruise control? Say if you have to brake does it resume your original speed or just cruise at the new speed?

I don't know what kinda cruise ya got but my little star **** under the throttle just locks or tensions the grip wherever I twist it, so no its not automatic, Now baggers on the other hand with cruise is electronic and maintains speed up hill etc., probably cuts out on clutched downshifting too or braking. It is easy on the wrists locking the throttle down and just twisting to adjust speed or alternate hands when you've got a long stretch of road and no traffic.

+1 I haven't seen an electronic cruise control other than on the touring bikes. I use a $15 gadget called a Throttle Mate that makes it easier to manipulate the star wheel when on the open road. http://throttlemate.com/

Your best bet is to replace your grips with something like the ISOs and get the throttle thing.

I dont use it, that thing scares the **** out of me. Having my throttle all bound up with a screw isn't for me. I had a lady pull out infront of me on rt 9 last fall and rolling the throttle forward wasnt enough to loosen that nut thing to where I could control the throttle without resistance, just made things a lot more complicated...I havent tried any of those little levers that go on them yet, maybe they are better.

I occasionally use the "star throttle lock", but rarely. It works fine if you are on flat roads, not so good for up and down hills. Not too much flat land in my area.

"Throttle Rocker" should be the first thing you put on your bike. It costs only a few bucks and takes a minute to install. The little bit of extra leverage coupled with the added support for your wrist makes you relax your hands and arms once you hit the open road. Put on a HD pillow seat, and a Memphis Fats shield on your Sporty and you will snicker when people complain about their ride. Discomfort is an option--you get to choose.
