I've always liked the "standard" bike and the bare-bones feel, look, and agility of the Sportster fit that bill in today's choice of bikes. I wish it were lighter, but it does the trick for my preferred style of riding.

I have been riding for over 25 years on rice burners and finally decided it was time to take the plunge and get my first HD, the sportster has the look and ride that I like, and haven't looked back yet.

I am a 54yr man andmoney was no object if I wanted a bigger bike. I knew as I gotolder it would be difficult for me to probably handle a bigger bike. I have a fried who is 70 with an ultra classic and he complains about the weight all the time.I read that Harely designed the Sporster for someone who is 5' 9" and about 170 lbs and that fits me to a tee. So I went out and got a 2006 XL1200C. Plan to ride it until I am dead. I have already put on 8K miles and its still going strong.

Looks...it's my idea of what a bike should look like, classic. Versatility...I use mine for my courier work a lot and with the saddlebags, windscreen, fork bag and a few other geegaws it conquers the day and economically, I might add. Price...affordable. Performance...plenty of it. Attitude...puts miles and miles of smiles on my face. 'Nuff said.

I have a couple of reasons. The price was right for one. Two, I hate the "grandpa" bikes as I call them. And three, I'm with gypsy, if I wanted cruise control and a radio, I would drive my car.
Grandpa Bikes ???? Now that's a low blow and insulting. It would be more politically correct to use the term Geezer Glide. At least that's what my wife calles my bagger.
No offense meant. I know I'm stereotyping them, but I don't seem to many younger guys out there on a Road King. Besides, I just don't like the look of them. But if you like them, more power to you. I'm sure the guys in the home like them too.

What wanabegood said above +1. I am 70 years old and after laying eyes on my 2008 XL1200L Sportster, I knew that was the bike for me. I have a grin on my face with it just setting there. After I get on and start riding, the faster I go, the bigger the grin. But I get to a point that I start laughing and that is about 70 mph and then I just start looking for the longest way back home. In other words, you just can't beat a Sportster.

The form, fit, function, and price of theNightster, and custom tribal paint I fell in love with--had to take her home. Wasn't planning on buying a Harley, or a motorcycle for that matter, until I saw her. My heart skipped a beat and my breath stopped. Then I got that knowing feeling--f^ch, I'm going to be riding this beauty, andshe is is mine [8D]...now isn't there a class I'm supposed to take or something, thatstarts with "now this is a motorcycle...?"

My brother-in-law had mine and it sat in the garage. He did give me the family deal on buying it, butI had to do a lot of work to get it road worthy.
I always wanted it since I rode it a few years earlier.
