Default Gas odor

Lately I've noticed the smell of gas when I'm around the bike. It's not overpowering, but it's definitely there. I can't see any leakage. I also have been in the habit of leaving the petcock in the open position for quite a while now. Any ideas on why I can smell the gas?? Should I be shutting off the fuel supply when I'm not riding? I know it's recommended, but I got tired of forgetting to turn it on when I start up in the morning so I tend to leave it on most of the time.

Are you running an aftermarket air filter?

I know once I switched to the open element filter I started noticing the smell of gas, but I think it is due to the blowback that accumalates in the filter itself.

The Stage 1 was done on the bike before I got it and I've never noticed it before. Maybe I'll pop off the filter and see if it smells of gas.

fumes will find there way out through any cracks, if the smell is noticable but their is no dripping, you still have a leak, i would try to find it.

but on a carbed bike where the fuel system isnt made to impossibly specific specs i would suspect the fumes to get out somewhere

you might also want to check the seal on your gas cap, easy culprit, not noticable beucase it doesnt spew gas like other parts of the bike.

I noticed the same thing on mine.
I took the breather out.
It was a K&N.
I cleaned it & re-oiled it.
It doesnt have the smell anymore.
I think its from not getting enough air in to the carb.
I park it in a garage but turn the pet **** off as well now.
