Sideways mounted License plate
Hi all...
I just ordered some personalized plates from the Province...and in a couple of months they will arrive (speedy around here in Ontario huh?)...
I was wondering if anyone knew of an easy to install/reliable side mounting kit to purchase for installation on an '08 XL883C...
I figure I have lots of time to do research on these, whilst waiting for plate production...
My actual plate reads:
3 Q 3 (can you visualize it? insert everone turning their heads sideways here...)
BTW..all the 0's and O's were gone, but if you think hard and look closely (while somewhat sober it willsay "WOW")...with a Q...
Thanks in advance...
and happy riding all!

RE: Sideways mounted License plate
Most like to create there own which is very cost effective and unique but for me, time & creativity don't mix well together. When I want it, I want it now....
So I went with the Kuryakyn curved side mount license holder, http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp...ey&ci=3582
Part no. 3173 (This is for a 4x7 size plate)
Wasn't going to remove the stock tail lense so I got the one that is just the plate holder(comes with a light for the plate thoughl, which I have yet to wire up!)
I'll try to post some pics later of how it looks on the bike and not just the stock images around the web.
A few things to note, the frame that goes over the plate holder was a pain to get off at first, blue loctite was heavily used on all 4 hex bolts when they put it together before shipping and I stripped one of them, needless to say a trip down to the local nut & bolt was in order.
Also my plate was 4x7 and a tad bit to large to fit under the plate holder properly so I trimmed off the edges of the plate since its totally enclosed anyway, now you can't tell that its been modified.
I really like the look and besides stripping one of the bolts its been a reliable mount. Best of luck in your search for other options!

Thanks Somber,
that at least gives me some "frame" of reference..I appreciate hearing about the details of removal too..I'd love to see some pics, if you get a chance.
and Hotlap...that's a great idea for Mother's day...I'll have to try that...
Cheers...

RE: Sideways mounted License plate
Best and strongest made in my opinion is by www.fabkevin.com , best I could afford right now and holds up well so far I got from http://stores.ebay.com/Road-6-Customsfor $19 plus shipping.
I've made some prototypes myself in the past and vibration will brake most of them over time espeically if mounted to the shock bolt vs. axle. The Road 6 one is about 1/8" bent steel and does not seem to vibrate at all on my axle and it comes powdercoted not to mention is cheap to try.
If I had $$$ to spare Kevin is the way to go as he makes them for tons of builders in all the mags.and will make it anyway you want out of 1/8 to 1/4 steel with welded reinforcements for a fairly reasonable cost but they're unpainted/coated. Another cheap alternative when they have them in stock again is the one by http://www.flyritechoppers.com/Pg/FRCParts.htmlfor $60.
